SPRINGFIELD -- A total of 182 Missouri State University student-athletes were recognized during the eighth annual Maroon and White Honors Banquet and Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony held Monday (April 9) evening at Hammons Student Center.The student-athletes were recognized for achieving a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade-point average for all semesters at Missouri State.This year's crop of academic honorees represents student-athletes currently participating in all 17 of Missouri State's intercollegiate programs.The annual Scholar Athlete of the Year Award was presented to the graduating student-athletes holding the highest cumulative grade point averages. Both recipients will be participate in May commencement on the Springfield campus.The ceremony also included recognition by the student-athletes of their faculty mentors in attendance for their hard work and dedication to Missouri State's student-athletes.Significant individual academic achievers were also highlighted, including MVC Elite 17 Award recipients Brad Carpenter (men's golf), Jessica Allen (cross country and outdoor track), Brianne Dixon (volleyball), and Sydney Zupan (women's swimming). Missouri Valley Conference President's Council Academic Excellence Awards were also bestowed on 11 MSU performers: Jessica Allen (track and cross country), Brad Carpenter (men's golf), Mary Disidore (women's soccer), Brianne Dixon (volleyball), Lily Johnson (volleyball), Sara Jones (softball), Courtney Kolb (women's soccer), Nick Masoner (football), Emma Metz (women's swimming), Sarah Sabo (women's soccer) and Erika Velasquez Zimmer (softball).Likewise, the Mid-American Conference recognize four MSU student-athletes with MAC Presidential Awards for graduating seniors with a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher. Men's swimming and diving performers Canaan Campbell, Kacper Cwiek, Will Frisbie and Chris Heye were honored.Twenty-six student-athletes were recognized as Dr. Bruce Johnson Scholars -- those individuals who have been recognized at the Maroon and White Banquet all four years: Abbey Belote, Lauren Boone, Canaan Campbell, Brad Carpenter, Rachel Catrell, Mary Disidore, Brianne Dixon, Caroline Finnell, Hanna Flanagan, Liza Fruendt, Chris Heye, Bri Horozewski, Lily Johnson, Sara Jones, Courtney Kolb, Nick Masoner, Emma Metz, Ledis Molina, Makenzie Pfeiffer, Lee Ann Polowy, Landan Ruff, Sarah Sabo, Erika Velasquez-Zimmer, Lauren Williams, Brooke Zimmerman, Sydney Zupan.The final honor of the night, The Highest Team GPA Awards, were presented to the Missouri State men's golf team (3.41 GPA) and volleyball (3.64 GPA) programs.
