The Lobos produced a victory and three runner-up finishes to accompany the school record on the first night of competition at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational. Ryan Chase set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 24-3.50 (7.40m) to earn his first collegiate win in the event and break into the school's all-time top 10 at 10th. Also cracking into the all-time top 10 was Steffi Jones , who used a strong final lap in the women's 600-meter run to move from third to first to win her heat in 1:37.24. While Griffin was the highlight of the 200-meter run, fellow Lobos Elijah Lilly (22.16) and Isaac Cole (22.27) each won their heats with times under 22.50.
